Christian Bates is a Federation Starfleet petty officer, yeoman, and administrative assistant serving during the latter half of the twenty-fourth century. The highlights of his recent career center around assignments as Captain's Yeoman aboard the USS Arlington and USS Yorktown. In these roles, Schulz not only witnessed major events involving unrest in the Romulan Empire and growing awareness of the Yang Zutal, but played a key role in them also. He currently serves as Captain's Yeoman aboard the Legacy-class USS Yorktown.

Appearance

Despite Christian's Skagaran heritage, his physical appearance remains relatively indistinguishable from that of a full-blooded human. Christian is a well-built young man, though he has always considered himself to be rather average when it comes to his own appearance, never feeling as if he stood out from the crowd. He always manages to appear well kept without seeming flashy or shallow. This is reflected in his choice of casual simplicity over gaudy or showy attire. It has also been said his warm smile and attentive gaze make him easily approachable as an individual.

Personality

General Overview

Hard working and intelligent, Christian has certainly earned himself a place in history as the first Skagaran to serve in Starfleet. He has always worked very hard to keep an open mind to the world around him and demonstrated himself to be someone others can rely upon. His dedication to others as well as his ability to listen have made him quite the natural confidant.

Strengths & Weaknesses

Those who have known Christian speak quite highly of his dedication, his dependability, and his ability to approach any situation with an open mind. Christian has demonstrated true attention to detail and organization as well as a certain awareness of less tangible connections within a given environment. By remaining open and accepting of those whom he has encountered in his life, Christian has often found the strength to stand up for those who are in need, earning him the confidence of others and giving the impression of a young man with some sense of the greater picture.

Despite what would seem like an open and outgoing personality, Christian has been known to experience difficulty expressing his own innermost thoughts and feelings with others. this has sometimes pushed him to extreme lengths in the service of others. On ocassion, he will sacrafice his own needs on behalf of those he believes to be in greater need, somtimes to the point of physical or emotional exhaustion.

Ambitions

Christian has come to recognize his own abilities as natural gifts which, when applied appropriately, can make a true difference in the lives of others. Although he has begun his career as an enlisted yeoman, Christian seeks to develop both his administrative and technical skills in hopes of eventually earning his officer's commission. Sharing what he has with others has always been a guiding principle of Christian's life, ultimately driving him to become the first Skagaran in Starfleet, though his ultimate goal in life is to become an ambassador of the Federation.

Hobbies & Interests

It is perhaps through Christian's personal hobbies and interests that one might begin to see a manifestation of the young man himself. Growing up in the North Star Colony provided Christian with a multitude of opportunities to enjoy the outdoors including hiking, trailriding, and camping. It was not unusual for Christian and a few friends to ride horseback into the wilderness for an overnight or weekend adventure. Living aboard ship has made it moer difficult for Christian to enjoy such pasttimes, however, but he has found holonovel adventures can still offer a distinct way to separate himself from the rigors of day-to-day life aboard ship.

Christian often seeks escape through the reading of various literary forms with a particular interest in that of Earth's nineteenth and twentieth centuries. He also enjoys spending quality time with his acoustic guitar, a handmade gift from a close childhood friend, having plucked its strings anywhere from open wilderness to the privacy of his own quarters. At the same time, Christian recognizes the importance of being an actively present member of the crew, even when off duty. He can often be found enjoying an evening in the ship's lounge or public recreation area.
