Hades System, Alpha Quadrant

5 Class-Y Planets

[ Source ]

The Hades System is located in the space between the Taevon Expanse and the Black Cluster. Originally home to five uninhabitable Class-Y planets, the Yang Zutal have since terraformed Hades II and Hades III into Class-M and are in the process of doing the same with Hades IV.

Originally discovered in 2196 by deep space observatories on Pluto, the Hades System was believed to be very much similar to other star systems until the first starship conducted a survey of it in 2272. Upon arrival in the system, the USS Galileo discovered that all five planets in the system were Class-Y, a rare occurrence that has yet to be seen again. After surveying the planets and several asteroids in the system, it was determined that the particles that came together to form the Hades star, as well as the planets, contained unusual concentrations of toxic and volatile chemicals. After being entered into the database, the Hades system faded from interest and was rarely spoken of outside of astrometrics and stelar mechanics courses.

In 2386 a moderately sized fleet of as yet unknown vessels entered the Hades system and began the time and energy consuming process of terraforming one of the Class-Y planets, a feat that Federation scientists had only theorized about. By 2387 when a Starfleet observation team was sent to the Hades system to investigate the Federations new neighbors, they found that Hades III had been completely terraformed and that Hades II was in the process of being terraformed. Their report to Starfleet was sure of very little other than the fact that the Zutal Imperium was setting up for the long haul.

In the time since the first observation team reported the changes made to Hades III and Hades II, Starfleet has continually kept an eye on the Yang Zutal, often keeping a cloaked starship in the vicinity at all times. More recent reports show that Hades II has been completely terraformed and that the large ship seemingly responsible for the terraforming process has moved on to Hades IV to begin changing it into a Class-M planet as well.

Planet Information

Hades I

The closest planet to the Hades star, Hades I circles the star roughly once every seventy-four days. Due to its proximity to the star, it is believed that the Yang Zutal do not plan to terraform Hades I as it would be incapable of supporting life.

Hades II

Hades II was the second planet terraformed by the Yang Zutal colony ship. It is slightly larger than Earth and orbits the Hades star at a distance of approximately 0.89 AU.

Hades III

Hades III was the first planet terraformed by the Yang Zutal. At roughly the size of Venus, Hades III orbits at a distance of 1.2 AU.

Hades IV

Hades IV is currently in the process of being terraformed. It is similar in size to Hades III, but orbits the Hades star on a different plane than the other four planets. It is believed that the unusual orbital plane is due to a collision of celestial bodies when the system was first forming.

Hades V

Hades V is the furthest planet from the Hades star, at roughly 2.3 AU.
